BRIAN LITTLE

When Brian Little walked through the imposing gates of Villa Park in 1969 as a 15-year-old apprentice, he couldn’t have imagined that he would still have such close connections with Aston Villa more than 50 years later. 

Brian’s Claret and Blue journey has been an amazing one, and although he was also manager of other football clubs during his career, the one thing he is keen to emphasise is that since Day One he has always been a Villa fan - a true Little Villan! 

In his new publication ‘Brian Little - My Aston Villa’, the player who many supporters still claim ‘walks on water’, and also the last Villa manager to win a major trophy for the club, gives an intriguing insight into his life and times at the world-famous club.

Along with co-writer, and former Midlands sports reporter Peter White, he charts his days as a Villa player, his England call-up, his enforced early retirement, working in the Aston Villa club shop, being youth team coach, later the manager, and now club ambassador, informal adviser to the board, and even match day co-commentator for the Aston Villa website.

Brian runs the rule over every Villa manager from Tommy Docherty to Dean Smith; discusses the merits and pitfalls of some of the top players he managed, reveals for he first time the real reason why he quit as Villa boss - and much, much more.

There are also contributions from former top players Andy Gray, Gary Shaw, Nigel Spink, Ian Taylor Tony Daley, Shaun Teale, Kevin Gage, Stan Collymore and Garry Thompson about their thoughts on Brian and some of their memories of playing for Villa. 

Actors and TV celebrities David Bradley (Harry Potter films and Game of Thrones); Nigel Boyle (Line of Duty) and Adil Ray OBE (writer and star of TV show Citizen Khan, and TV presenter) also reveal their Claret and Blue memories. Co-writer Peter White also reveals some of his memories from the Press Box, where he watched Aston Villa play for 23 years.
